Natalie Scott, Audit & Accounts Manager

Natalie joined Martin Aitken in 2013 as a graduate of Glasgow Caledonian University.
Having completed her ICAS qualification in 2016, she is now an Audit & Accounts Manager within our A&A department.

Natalie’s path is just one of many examples of ambitious, innovative graduates who have made their mark here at Martin Aitken.

MA: How long have you been with Martin Aitken?
NS: I joined the business back in February 2013.

MA: What made you want to join the business?
NS: After I had left university, I was introduced to Martin Aitken via a Commonwealth Apprenticeship. They suggested that Martin Aitken would be a good fit for me.

MA: What career path did you follow to get to your current role?
NS: I went down the university route, studying Accountancy at Glasgow Caledonian University, where I received a 2/1 BA Hons degree.

MA: What does a typical day look like?
NS: I am currently working as a Manager in the Audit & Accounts team, so every day is usually varied. Working with SMEs, limited companies and sole traders, I assist with accounts preparation, audits and quarterly VAT returns.

I’m also involved in preparing monthly management accounts, VAT returns and tax returns (personal and corporation) and have particular expertise in the preparation of monthly/quarterly management accounts, book-keeping and Sage.

MA: What’s the best part of your job?
NS: The best part of the job is that it is so varied that no two days are the same. You get hands-on with clients and are able to provide guidance and help to clients in so many ways.

MA: What’s been your biggest success so far?
NS: I achieved my CA qualification in 2016 with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).

MA: Where do you see yourself / Martin Aitken in five years’ time?
NS: I want to continue on a growth trajectory in Accountancy. How this develops, it’s hard to say at this point in time!

Overall, I want to make sure no matter what position I’m in, I’m constantly seeking growth opportunities in and outside my role to continue to develop my skills and knowledge.

MA: When you’re not at your desk, what do you like to do in your spare time?
NS: In my spare time, I like going out for walks, watching movies and spending quality time with my niece.
