Since the firm’s formation in 1897, Martin Aitken & Co has attracted a large number of business and personal clients over the years by building our brand and reputation for quality service. Key to our success has been our ability to develop our staff and our expertise in a way which reflects our client base, over fifty of whom are practicing dentists throughout Scotland. Our specialist knowledge allows us to provide you with a comprehensive solution for your accounting, taxation and finance requirements.

We have a dedicated team dealing with dental practices and associated service providers such as dental laboratories. As part of our continuing development in your field, Martin Aitken was the sole accountancy practice attending the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (UK) Scotland Study Day held in December 2010 at the Glasgow Science Centre. This was the second year running the Faculty organisers had asked us to attend as the exclusive exhibiting accountancy firm.

Having a wealth of experience working with dental practitioners, we are often referred newly-qualified dentists who are ready to go into practice for themselves, or ready to take on an associate position with another practitioner. As you, the client, progress and build up your practice, the accountancy and finance solution we can provide is customised to meet your needs.

As a freelance hygienist or dental care professional, we can assist you with registering as self-employed with HM Revenue & Customs, provide guidance on the records you will need to maintain and how to keep ahead of your legal obligations. As you establish yourself in your profession, our in-house Financial Services company Martin Aitken Financial Services Limited can help you manage your own personal finances such as setting aside money for a rainy day, making your savings work for you, and ensuring your pension provision will be satisfactory for later on in life.

If you, as part of your career development, join a partnership, form your own practice or buy over someone else’s, we can help you with obtaining finance, carrying out suitable due-diligence work to make an acquisition, prepare the practice’s annual accounts, manage it’s payroll, and meet all it’s tax compliance requirements.

Eventually, you may wish to expand, scale back, or retire. We also provide tax planning services covering areas such as Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax, retirement planning in conjunction with our Financial Services company Martin Aitken Financial Services Limited, and provide guidance on the disposal of practices.

Partners Stephen Neville and Jayne Clifford head up the firm’s dentist team and have over forty years combined experience advising dental clients. Our dental client base covers the whole of Scotland, from the Borders to Dingwall; and from Rothesay to Edinburgh, so why not get in-touch to meet with Stephen or Jayne to see if we can do things differently for you and your practice. Our first meeting is free of charge.
